From the website CollegeSimply, their data indicates that in 2013 the SAT and ACT requirements for students admitted to Polytechnic Institute of New York University that is accepted is an "ACT score down to at least 27. Likewise, reporting indicates the school will take SAT composite scores down to 1190 on a 2400 scale."
In addition the website mentions that, "According to our data, 2,453 out of 3,654 applicants or 67% percent were admitted making Polytechnic Institute of New York University moderately easy school to get into with a good chance of acceptance assuming you meet the requirements." This information showcases the student admission requirement prior to the official merger with NYU.
CollegeSimply also states that "Academically, it has extremely high requirements for admission test scores, generally admitting students who score in the top 15 percent."
CollegeSimply explains further that the SAT requirements for students to be admitted to Polytechnic Institute of New York University "typically requires applicants to be in the top 18 percent of SAT test takers. The school consistently takes SAT composite scores down to 1250 on a 1600 scale, below which admission should be considered a reach. We estimate some students could be accepted with SAT's as low as 1155. The estimated average SAT composite for admitted freshman is 1345 out of 1600."
From the NYU Tandon School of Engineering's official Report on Enrollment, Retention & Graduation Based on Census Data for Fall 2020 on the NYU Tandon website, a graph on the Average SAT Scores from 2015-2020 for first time, full time Freshmans. In the graph, there is an increase in standards for SAT with a peak of 1448 in Fall 2019. The data from this graph matches well with the data provided from CollegeSimple mentioned previously.
The website CollegeDunia provides information on NYU Tandon based on data from 2020. They updated their website on November 26, 2021 commenting that "NYU Tandon School of Engineering has an acceptance rate of 35% making it competitive for applicants while applying for programs." CollegeDunia also states that "A cumulative GPA of 3.75-above, an exemplary academic profile paired with a distinguishable and outstanding overall performance can make it fairly easy for applicants to get selected at NYU Tandon School of Engineering."
CollegePond wrote an article on the NYU and NYU Poly merger on September 29, 2019. Here they wrote notes on the impact of the merger, one which states that "At the largest scale, this resulted in a boost for school rankings as Poly is now combined with the much larger, and higher ranked NYU. SAT scores for first year students rose dramatically, research grants increased by 30%, and graduation rates by 15%."
With the increased standard among students, U.S. News ranked New York University Tandon School of Engineering as the current 33rd Best Engineering School for 2023. In the 15 years since New York University and Polytechnic University merged to form the foundation of NYU Tandon, the school has risen 47 positions in the U.S. News and World Report’s annual Best Graduate Engineering Schools rankings.
