Some Context About Me
Hello, my name is Katrina Ramirez. I am a Junior in Integrated Design & Media. You might currently be wondering, why is this random girl creating an exhibit about random theater clubs? Well actually, the theater isn’t random. I would also argue that I am not random either, but to be fair I can’t argue much against that, so here’s a headshot of me against a brick wall.
As for the theater? I have loved theater since I was in elementary school. My earliest memory of theater is sitting in a high school theatre as an elementary school kid watching their performance for a school field trip. I remember being in a trance, and it is really history from there. I was in theater all 3 years of middle school, then all 4 years of high school. I was President of the Theater club, Stage Manager and Head Technician.
Theater was my everything. I wanted to continue that passion when I got to Tandon, but I found out very soon just how hard that was. There is currently no type of Drama Club at Tandon, and all the other Drama Clubs at NYU are across the river. Thus, my long history of theater suddenly took a pause. I couldn’t even find theater related classes. When I started learning about Poly, one of my first questions was, “Were there any drama clubs?”. It echoed that very similar question I asked when I started at Tandon, “Are there any drama clubs?”. While unfortunately my answer the the Tandon question was no, the answer to the Poly question was not the same. Poly Drama Clubs had my full attention.
And that’s is how this project started its creation. (also, apologies for any bad jokes throughout this exhibit, I like to think I’m funny)
