Faculty vs Administration on an NYU Alliance - Early 2000s

A New York Times Article with an Interview with John Sexton, President of NYU, Talking About the Possibility of a Merger

Faculty opinions on the matter of the merger generally didn’t differ greatly from those of the administration. An article came out in the New York Times on October 8th, 2004 reporting on the talks of alliance between Polytechnic University and NYU. President John Sexton of NYU paints a more optimistic picture than that at Polytechnic. He is keen on building the science and engineering side of NYU, and sees this as a way to build that capacity well helping a struggling institution. Not a lot is mentioned on the Polytechnic side, but David Chang, the president of Polytechnic at the time, said that “we want to educate tomorrow’s leaders in a technological world…but those leaders need to be exposed to more liberal arts that we don’t really have (Arenson, 2004).
